Our SPCA Feline Friend

Hey Everybody,
How are you? It's been quite awhile. I've since settled into my new home; it's been two years now 😏.
My family and I wanted to adopt a cat from our local SPCA; my daughter is an absolute avid cat lover, (animal lover at that)
So, we went to our local Peninsula SPCA  last Saturday; one of their most busy days. We wanted to get two cats but, after checking them out we found, one was extremely ill and; the other one was a bit skiddish. (Wouldn't be a good match with my autistic son who has frequent meltdowns).

We ended up getting Link (originally named MoMo). My daughter told me cats don't really respond to their names so, the names are really for us ☺
Here's Link cuddled up making his mark in our home.

Link was very underweight when we got him. We asked the SPCA attendant why. She told us, she really didn't know; just feed him and he would be fine.
Well, we checked his medical records that somehow showed up after we already agreed to adopt him and, they said, Link was a stray who was treated for internal parasites, and fleas. Also, the poor fella has a massive lump in his colon. He has had upset stomach and diahrrea ever since we got him. We only found out all these things after we brought him home and took him to our personal family vet.

Needless to say, we had to return Link after all of this. Poor fella.💔! I hope the vet will be able to help him. These animals do need special loving care, since they are shelter animals.

Shelters just need to be upfront with their clients. These animals need to be placed with people who are financially, mentally, physically and emotionally able to care for the animal. It is not fair to the caregiver or the animal to just try and quickly adopt out an animal for the sake of adopting it. It only results in distress for both the caregiver and the animal. Sometimes the animal could end up worse than it was, & many times, it has to be returned to the shelter. If shelters are upfront and thorough, people can decide which cat, well or sick, is right for them and vice versus.

We plan to get another cat later down the line. For now, I'd like to share with you, a couple of things for you to consider, if you plan to rescue a cat from a local shelter or SPCA.

1. Do your research. Be sure you know how to take care of your animal prior to getting it.

2. When it's time, ask questions. Ask to see the animal's history & medical records. (If they are currently unavailable, wait until you have all the facts on the animal, so you can make an informed decision. Adopting a pet cannot just be about how cute and appealing it is. It is a big commitment. Be thorough.

3. Don't be pressured. Animal shelters want to find animals a home as soon as possible. As I said earlier, while they should be thorough, many times it's just not the case. Analyze every aspect. Check medical records. Pay close attention to the health and overall appearance of your potential soon-to-be pet.
If you're willing to take a sick cat, that would be so wonderful. Just make sure you get all the facts before committing.

Finally, adopting a pet can be so rewarding but, it can also be a challenge.
If you're up to it, get out there and, support your local SPCAs.

Feeling The Winter Blues!

Today, I'm feeling the Winter Blues. It's cold here in Newport News, VA

But that's not all-

My Favorite Football Team, (Hey, Dallas Cowboys in the house), got cheated out of the chance to go to the Super Bowl,

Of course there will be debate about this probably until the End of the World comes. But, hey; nothing we can do.
Don't cry over spilt milk. Just clean it up, and move on.

Many people are also claiming that this "loss" that Dallas took, was Karma for the game they played the previous Week, against the Detroit Lions. Apparently, there was an "alledged" pass interference call that was reversed by officials, between Cowboys, Hitchens, and a Detroit Lion

This is a debate about it. See what,I mean?

Well, here's some close up pics that show what happened during this play as well. Now, previously, Hitchens grabbed the Jersey of the Detroit Lion offense, for about a split second, which resulted in this:

Take a look at this pic. Detroit Lion Offensive player is not even focusing on the ball. He's too busy grabbing Dallas Defensive player.

Okay, maybe you can see this a little better.

And yet, again

Bottom Line: Both Defense and Offense had holding penalties. This basically offsets penalties. The official who intially made the Pass Interference call admitted that after looking at it from this angle, (another angle, as he calls it), he admitted to jumping the gun.

Well, again, it doesn't matter now. Neither Dallas, nor Detroit are going to the Super Bowl. But, is the loss from the Green Bay Packers "Karma"? No! Again, this was the "right" call, but the reversal on Dez Bryant's end-game play, was not.

Well, if this wasn't enough bad news, just wait.
On top of this,

My Favorite WavyTv 10 Meteorologist, Jeff Edmonson, had his final day today, here in Hampton Roads, Virginia. He's going back to his hometown, Minnesota. He'll be working for NBC Affiliate Station- KARE 11; (Although I'm sad, I wish him all the very best. He will truly be missed). He had a smile that could brighten up any day.

See what I mean about that smile? :)

As for the Cowboys, I'm so very proud of them. They're moving on; maybe not to the Super Bowl, but, many of them got selected to play in the ProBowl. Demarco Murray #29 was chosen as a ProBowl's Team Captain.  Go Demarco! :)

Here's the Official ProBowl 2015 Roster Intro Video

and Here's the Official ProBowl 2015 Roster List

Well, I guess you can still find a silver lining in the clouds, and you know what they say; you can't have a rainbow without rain.

Another great thing is: Seasons change. So, these Winter Blues won't last always. Besides, it's the Weekend, and that's something to smile about, huh?

That's my "Days in the Life of A Mompreneur" update, for now. I know it's been awhile. Just finished another move, and, may be moving again in another year or two.

When To MultiTask

MultiTasking -Do you ever feel like this, when you try it?

That's probably because, just like most of us, you've embraced and incorporated the idea that this is what multitasking is supposed to be like.

Let's debunk the myth right now!

Whenever you try to do more than 1 thing at a time, you're actually causing confusion to build up in your brain. Your brain may appear to be able to process the information you are cramming into it, but, really it's screaming, "I have no choice, but I can't do this; give me a break".

Our brains need to receive information, break it down, (analyze it), and  process it into working, usable form. If it's fed too much information at the same time, it gets confused.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed and confused, when trying to multitask? (Again, look at the man in the suit, above). Have you looked or felt like that? If you've answered yes, then you've got two choices:

  1. You could continue to try the old method of multitasking, and do things the hard and "confusing" way" or
  2. You could apply the following methods of multitasking, and do things in a peaceful, productive way.
Some people would like to tell you that you just can't multitask at all. This is not completely true. Here are some examples of what not to do:

This obviously is not a good idea

Texting and driving, and drinking a coffee; hmm! Where's his eyes focused? On the road? or on the cellphone?

Very good infograph on Multi-Tasking

How about this pic? Is she paying attention to the person on the phone, while checking her email on the smartphone? She may also have something she needs to be attending to, on the computer screen. Well, not sure, but, if this is the case, then what should she be doing?

Well, she should be giving her full attention to the person on the phone. After she hangs up, she could then, quickly check her email to see if she has something important she needs to respond to. Then, she could get back to her computer.

Or, how 'bout this one? Think this is a good way to multitask?

Well, we've seen a few things that's wrong about multitasking, so, what's right about it? To answer this question, let me say; I've learned over the years that, there are some things you can do, to speed up your work load, and get multiple things done in most of the hours of the day.

For example; you have laundry, dishes and a term paper, or a business report to do. It is unnecessary and ineffective, to do each of things separately. You may be saying, "But, I thought the brain could not work well on two or more tasks? Well, the thing is, you don't have to do these things all at the same time. First, you could: load the dishwasher and start it. Then, you could load and start the washing machine. Then, you could start on your term paper. Once the washer has stopped, take a break from your term paper or business report, and load the clothes into the dryer.

There you have it; a couple of effective ways to multi-task

Here are some more tips:

This really is the truth. Want a happy brain? Perform one complex task at a time.

I can add; it's perfectly OK to listen to classical music, while working on Math problems or Writing Reports. Studies have shown: Classical Music helps boost your understanding of Math. It can also help your neurotransmitters connect information better, when writing.

Mompreneurs and Stay-At-Home Moms Got MultiTasking down-packed!

Women seem to be able to handle all kinds of jobs simultaneously, and are labeled, "great multitaskers". Well, this being said, let's look at what multitasking means from this pic.

Mom has to cook, clean, take care of the baby, manage her home-business and take care of herself. How can she accomplish all of this effectively and efficiently? Well, let's see. She could:

  1. Sleep and Rest while the baby is sleeping
  2. Get up and feed, change and play with the baby at his/her appropriate times
  3. Cook and light clean while baby is asleep.
  4. Do major cleaning, (vacuuming, etc, while baby is awake and properly occupied)
  5. She could exercise while baby is awake and properly occupied
  6. She could work on her home-business while baby is napping

There you have it; another example of the proper way to multi-task.

It really isn't. Debunk the myths, and you'll find that multitasking is not complicated at all  :)

Does multitasking have you looking like this? It doesn't have to. Now that we know what real multitasking is, we can look like this

Today's International Women's Day: Ladies, This One's For You!

Happy International Women's Day-Google Image

Today is International Women's Day!

What's it all about?

 From Wikipedia-the free Encyclopedia

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is marked on March 8 every year.[2] In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements. Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily in Europe, including Russia. In some regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. In other regions, however, the political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. This is a day which some people celebrate by wearing purple ribbons.

History of International Women's Day's_Day

The earliest Women’s Day observances were held on many different dates: May 3, 1908, in Chicago; February 28th, 1909, in New York; and February 27, 1910, in New York [3][4]
In August 1910, an International Women's Conference was organized to precede the general meeting of the Socialist Second International inCopenhagen. Inspired in part by the American socialists, German Socialist Luise Zietz proposed the establishment of an annual 'International Woman's Day' (singular) and was seconded by fellow socialist and later communist leaderClara Zetkin, although no date was specified at that conference.[5][6] Delegates (100 women from 17 countries) agreed with the idea as a strategy to promote equal rights, including suffrage, for women.[7] The following year, on March 19, 1911, IWD was marked for the first time, by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. In the Austro-Hungarian Empire alone, there were 300 demonstrations.[5] In Vienna, women paraded on the Ringstrasse and carried banners honouring the martyrs of the Paris Commune.[5] Women demanded that women be given the right to vote and to hold public office. They also protested against employment sex discrimination.[2] Americans continued to celebrate National Women's Day on the last Sunday in February.[5]

In 1913 Russian women observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February (by Julian calendar then used in Russia).
Although there were some women-led strikes, marches, and other protests in the years leading up to 1914, none of them happened on March 8.[4] In 1914 International Women's Day was held on March 8, possibly because that day was a Sunday, and now it is always held on March 8 in all countries.[4][8] The 1914 observance of the Day in Germany was dedicated to women's right to vote, which German women did not win until 1918.[8][9]
In 1917 demonstrations marking International Women's Day in Saint Petersburg on the last Sunday in February (which fell on March 8 on the Gregorian calendar) initiated the February Revolution.[2] Women in Saint Petersburg went on strike that day for “Bread and Peace" - demanding the end of World War I and an end to Russian food shortages.[4] Leon Trotsky wrote, "23 February (8th March) was International Woman’s Day and meetings and actions were foreseen. But we did not imagine that this ‘Women’s Day’ would inaugurate the revolution. Revolutionary actions were foreseen but without date. But in morning, despite the orders to the contrary, textile workers left their work in several factories and sent delegates to ask for support of the strike… which led to mass strike... all went out into the streets." [8]
Following the October Revolution, the Bolshevik Alexandra Kollontai persuaded Vladimir Lenin to make it an official holiday in the Soviet Union, and it was established, but was a working day until 1965. On May 8th, 1965 by the decree of the USSR Presidium of the Supreme Soviet International Women's Day was declared a non-working day in the USSR "in commemoration of the outstanding merits of Soviet women in communistic construction, in the defense of their Fatherland during the Great Patriotic War, in their heroism and selflessness at the front and in the rear, and also marking the great contribution of women to strengthening friendship between peoples, and the struggle for peace. But still, women's day must be celebrated as are other holidays."
From its official adoption in Russia following the Soviet Revolution in 1917 the holiday was predominantly celebrated in communist and socialist countries. It was celebrated by the communists in China from 1922, and by Spanish communists from 1936.[10] After the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949 the state council proclaimed on December 23 that March 8 would be made an official holiday with women in China given a half-day off.[11]
In the West, International Women's Day was first observed as a popular event after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace.[12]
